Biography :

Joseph Lewis was serving in 2nd Bn The Leicestershire Regiment at Colchester as a Private in 1905. He was in 1st Bn's rugby team in the Army Cup in 1907, and played regularly for the Bn, stationed at Shorncliffe, He made seven appearances for Leicester Football Club's 1st Team 1908-10, and scored 2 tries. Noted also as an athlete, he was the 1st Bn's 100 yards champion several times and was also a good hurdler. He was serving as a LCpl in 1909. He later served as Sergeant in 2nd Bn The Leicestershire Regiment during World War One, entering France on 14.10.1914. He also served in the war as 334207 in the Labour Corps.
